Why we should take the mental health day.
Take the Mental Health Day. Please.
Ever have a day where you feel down, sluggish, low motivation, and just overall off? And there seems to be no particular reason? Or maybe, it’s been a few days of this due to a stressful event. Whatever the case is, this is your body telling you that you need to slow down, rest, and take care of yourself.
I often hear the reply “I can’t take work off”. When I ask why the response is almost always the same “well, my boss might say no; I don’t want people to know; it’s not a good enough reason”.
Feeling unlike yourself is always a good enough reason to take a step back and take that mental health day. And let’s not forgot, you actually pay for those sick days. Don’t let them go to waste ;)
But seriously, mental health days acknowledges where you’re at. It gives you the space to evaluate what’s happening and what needs to change. It helps you regain a sense of control thus potentially reducing the liklehood of burnout. Because trust me, burnout will find you, and when it does, it’ll be ten times worst than the initial day off that was needed.
There is nothing wrong with needing a mental health day. Let’s normalize this. Hustle culture is not sustainable and we do not live to work. We live for ourselves and our values.
So one more time - take the day because I know I will.
